Artist's Statement

Rachel Chasteen is  a 3D artist whose work focuses strongly on sewing and sculpting. References from video games and science fiction are used as inspirations while she adapts the theme, concept, design, or craft to incorporate her own original stylistic approach. Video games offer a unique combination of visuals, storytelling, music, and interactivity that is unique to the genre.  Interactive media blends different elements of engagement, consequentially creating an immersive and expressive new artistic medium. Rachel enjoys the challenge of bringing her favorite games to life off of the 2D screen in a way that whole communities of fans and creators alike can relate to. She creates plushies based off of favorite  game characters and constructs costumes often incorporating a wide range of skills including sewing, sculpture, and electronics. Shared interests among fans drove Rachel to explore different cultures formed by conventions which Inspired her to start her own business. At Crested Creations Rachel sells her plush work at vendor galleries and artist alley's to support her love of the craft. The community has been equal parts artistically rewarding and professionally motivating and show appreciation to the genre's that are incredibly meaningful to her.
